We are Maayke & Kim, two sisters with a passion for sourdough and creating delicious and easy recipes. We help home bakers master the art of old-world pastries and wild yeast bread without the overwhelm. Whether you’re reviving your first starter or laminating classic French dough, we're here to provide tested, reliable recipes.
Where it all began
There has never been a time when we have not been baking or inventing recipes. First in our mother’s kitchen and later in our own homes, we’ve never stopped creating recipes together. We grew up with Dutch classics like speculaas, hutspot, and apple pie, but that didn’t stop us from exploring culinary cultures from all over the world. While Kim was learning the ins and outs of fermenting and sourdough at culinary school, Maayke discovered the world of French pastries, studying old 17th-century cookbooks to modern-day cookbooks. Based in the Netherlands, we draw inspiration from centuries-old European baking traditions, bringing authentic ‘Old World’ pastry techniques to your modern kitchen in the USA and Canada.

Meet Maayke
Hi! I’m Maayke, a mother of four and lives with my family in the north of the Netherlands. Together with Kim, I am is the co-founder of Pastries & Sourdough where I share my favorite pastry and sourdough recipes. My love for old world classics started when I got my first antique French cookbook (Guide de la Bonne Cuisiniere) in 2018 and have been researching culinary history ever since.
I do this not only for Pastries & Sourdough, but also on my blog Nutmeg & Vinegar, where I have been active since 2019. You can also find my recipes on Reader’s Digest UK, MSN.com, Libelle Netherlands, and Woman’s Health magazine.

Meet Kim
I’m Kim, a proud mother of three who enjoys spending time outdoors with her family, four chickens, and two rabbits. I am passionate about sports and am the co-founder of Pastries & Sourdough. When I’m not developing new recipes, I love tending to her vegetable garden, where I grow my own fruits and vegetables.
I hold a Bachelor's degree in Teacher Bakery and Hospitality from the HVA in Amsterdam, where I formally trained in the art of professional baking. While I love the science of dough hydration and the technical side of slow fermentation, my real passion is translating those professional techniques into simple, ‘old world’ recipes that you can successfully recreate in your own home kitchen.
